About Arif Rashid
I, Arif Rashid, have been a coach for over 20 years with extensive experience. I am currently working as Coach at Ashtead CC, St. George’s Hospital University Medical School and In Touch Cricket.
I first started working as a coach at KBCC, Surrey County Cricket Club. I was there for eight years progressing to course administrator. I was involvd with the winter coaching programmes for children aged 8-13. The ten week courses were designed to teach the children the basic skills of batting, bowling and fielding. Together leading a team of coaches we helped to develop the core skills of the children both individually and as a group. In addition, I worked with adults on a 1-2-1 basis improving their skills and techniques at all levels.
I have also worked at schools namely, Wimbledon High School for girls and Eaton House, The Manor Prep Schools–Clapham Common. At Wimbledon High School I was their cricket coach for the juniors. Cricket was introduced for the first time in summer of 2017. I was responsible for setting up the cricket at the school. Previously, I have also worked at Eaton House, The Manor Prep Schools–Clapham Common, as their cricket coach. In addition, I have coached at Ealing CC, Cricket Coaching Excellence and as Cricket Coach consultant for many clubs. I was also Head Coach at WPCC 2021/22.
I have great passion and enthusiasm for cricket and other sports. I love teaching students the necessary skills required to enhance their ability and passing on my experience. I have a great desire to win. I try to pass on my enthusiasm, drive and passion to the students by encouraging them to work hard, practice and be determined to succeed.
I started playing in the alley ways in Nairobi, Kenya, before moving to England as a young boy in 1976. Having not played for 5 years, in 1981 as a 13 year old, I decided to go to an evening colts session at Mitcham Cricket Club. My persistence to bowl and bat in fading light took the coaches by surprise as I easily managed to bat. After the session, I was asked to join the club and if I was available to play for the Colts U16 side the following week. My first game as a colt for Mitcham was in 1981 and after having success in that game I started my career as a player. I went on to represent Surrey U14 and U15 that year and the subsequent Surrey Age group sides. It was the beginning of a wonderful journey. I toured Australia with Surrey Youth Side in 1985.
Having represented Surrey at junior (age groups) and senior (Club & Ground) levels as well as playing the very highest level of Club Cricket. I know what is required to compete at the highest level. I captained Ealing to the Premier League title in 2005 and also to the Evening Standard Trophy Final in 2005. I was Man of the Match in CCC Inter League final in 2003 representing the MCCL. In addition, I was leading run scorer in the MCCL Premier Division 2004. I have also played club cricket for Mitcham (Surrey Championship), Old Thorntonians (Surrey Slazenger League), Warlingham (Surrey Championship), Ealing (MCCL) and Malden Wanderers (Surrey Championship).
